Spiced Jowar and Onion Flatbread / Kandyacha Thalipeeth

I recently posted a multigrain flatbread, this bread is very similar in the way you make it, however this has only millet flour (Sorghum/Jowar). As you know millet flour is gluten free and very healthy to eat. Not only this bread is healthy but utterly tasty to eat on its own, with pickles or some yogurt. This is my standard fallback when I don't feel like cooking anything, but at the same time I want to make sure I am not eating unhealthy food. The simplicity of this bread, yet very delicious, leaves me wanting more. I promise you, you will not repent trying this out.
Go ahead give it is go.. here is what you need:
Shopping List: This will make 3 medium sized breads:
  1. 2 cups of Jowar / Sorghum flour on of the Millet flours, you can get this in Indian stores and probably in bigger grocery stores.
  2. 1 large onion red or white will do
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Chili powder
  5. Olive oil or Sunflower Oil for cooking, for the ones who like Ghee can use a spoonful of Ghee.
  6. Some water to bring the dough together
Making the Dough:

  1. Mix all the ingredients except for oil and add some water bit by bit until the flour comes together in a night dough ball. The dough needs to be  fairly tight.
  2. Turn the dough into even size balls. Make them fairly big as they will get flattened into a bread.
  3. Keep them aside for 5 mins.

Making the Flatbread / Thalipeeth:

  1. Take a heavy based pan, like a griddle (plain not ridged) or  a skillet
  2. Oil the pan well, so that the bread doesn't stick to the pan when cooking.
  3. Press the dough down to the entire width of the pan and make a few holes once its pressed down.
  4. Pour a bit of oil in each hole.
  5. Put the pan on medium heat and cover it.
  6. Check it after 2 mins, the top of the bread should look dry and the bread should start coming apart from the pan.
  7. If the bread does not come apart, let it cook for some more time, but keep watching it like a hawk as you don't want it to burn.

  8. Flip the bread and roast is on the other side, so that it crisps up nicely.
Turn off the heat and transfer them to a plate and serve with some lovely naturally set yogurt, pickle or brush the flatbread with Ghee or Butter and enjoy it crunchy :) You can eat this for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner!!
