Slow cooked beef curry

Being a vegetarian I have no idea how meat tastes. How a piece of chicken differs from beef or pork I have no idea, but what I can guess is the what will go with different meats just based on what the animals eat, the terrains they live in etc. I decided to make a slow cooked beef curry for my husband one evening and I have to say he was quite happy with it. He ate the curry saying excellent with every mouthful. So looks like what went in the curry actually worked. If you like me are fearful of cooking meat thinking what if it isn't right, all I would say is just follow your gut and it will turn out good 😃
So if you want to give it a shot here is what I put in the beef curry:
  1. 600 gms cubed beef
  2. Half a tin of chopped tomatoes
  3. 1 large onion
  4. 1 large bay leaf
  5. Half a head of garlic
  6. 1 inch finely sliced ginger
  7. Half a bunch coriander.
  8. Sunflower oil for cooking
  9. Plain flour
Spices:
  1. Garam masala 2 teaspoons. I used home made masala by my mom and sister, store bought is good too. Try and make a fresh one if you can just gives the meat that extra flavour.
  2. Turmeric 1/4th teaspoon
  3. Chilli powder1/4th teaspoon
  4. Black pepper powder 1/4th teaspoon
  5. Salt to taste
Let's get cooking:
  1. Pat the beef dry with some flour so that it absorbs all the moisture in the beef.
  2. In a heavy bottom pan add some oil and add the beef, this is to sear the meet to help it taste and cook better. Once the beef is brown transfer is to a pot or another pan.
  3. In the same pan you seared the meat, add some more oil and Fry onion, garlic, ginger, tomatoes on a medium heat until the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add all the spices to the mix and fry for further 5-6 mins until the mix starts leaving the oil Around edges, that's when you know the mixture is well cooked and all the spices Have been absorbed well.
  5. Add the seared beef to the mixture and let it cook for 5 mins.
  6. Add a litre of water. Turn the hob right down to low and let it cook for an hour and a half until the meat is tender and the gravy a little thick.
  7. Once it's cooked garnish with coriander and serve with roti or rice with some salad on the side.
  8. Very easy very simple but utterly delicious.

Bon appetit!!!
